Welcome
The West Virginia Campaign for Legal Reform is a project of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR). This campaign has been established to provide you with the latest information on activities and events related to our goal of reforming West Virginia's legal system. West Virginia can't afford the high price of lawsuit abuse -- and that's why we are working to bring sensible legal reform!
Backward or Forward for West Virginia's Economy?
Don't Let the Trial Lawyers Destroy Our State's Legal System
A new survey of major U.S. employers shows that, for the third year in a row, West Virginia's lawsuit climate has been rated as the most abusive in the country.
That lawsuit climate may discourage businesses from creating new jobs here in West Virginia. In fact, almost two-thirds (67%) of survey respondents say that "the litigation environment in a state is likely to impact important business decisions" such as where to locate or do business.
Unfortunately, West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw adds to the state’s poor lawsuit climate by pursuing shakedown lawsuits against private industry in which he hires private contingency fee lawyers — primarily his campaign contributors — to sue on behalf of the state.
Right now, West Virginia needs more jobs — not more lawsuits.

West Virginia Survey Shows Strong Support for Lawsuit Reform!
A recent online survey of West Virginia voters conducted by the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) showed strong support for lawsuit reform. Since we launched the nationwide Legal Reform Survey, more than 15,000 Americans have participated and more than 2,000 have offered personal comments about the issue.
Here in the Mountaineer State, an overwhelming number of West Virginians agree that we need to restore balance to our legal system through common sense lawsuit reforms.

Here is one of the results of the online survey:
Some newspapers have criticized West Virginia Attorney General Darryl McGraw for spending money from state lawsuit settlements on projects without the legislature's approval. Do you feel the attorney general should have legislture approval before spending these funds?
